The Alcazar Cabaret Show in Pattaya eastern Thailand delivers all of the glitz and glamor normally associated with a large Las Vegas stage production. However, while this cabaret extravaganza is performed in Pattaya Thailand ( a city better known for its adults only walking street and pristine beaches), it still delivers a high class performance which would rival similar transvestite shows from anywhere in the world.
The show is performed by members of the Alcazar Company which was started back in November 1981 and is said to incorporate a cast and crew or no fewer than 400 people. Pattaya is an area that is attracting a number of world class stage performances such as the equally impressive Tiffany Show which started its life back in 1974.
The performers within the Alcazar Show are dressed to the nine's in their spectacular glittering costumes which are adorned with costume jewelry, while their faultless make-up and high heel shoes make it difficult for the audience to recognise that these are actually male performers dressed as women.
Indeed, these transvestite artists provide a dazzling performance filled with wonderfully choreographed dance routines (including Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian and Korean) which tell a story of love and adventure.
Combined with lavish sets and a computer generated sound and light show, the professional performers of the Alcazar Cabaret Show have been thrilling both Thai and foreign audiences for years with the dance costumes and acting. Further, unlike similar shows including the Tiffany Show, members of the audience are able to take pictures and/or video of the performers during the show.
This grand cabaret show lasts approximately 1 hour and is held within the Alcazar Theatre which has seating for around 1,200 people. This theatre incorporates a hi-tech stage to deliver cinema style lighting and sound effects. The theatre complex also includes a cafe, Thai restaurant and gift shop where you can purchase mementos to remember your evening.
While this is essentially a lady-boy show it is a family friendly event meaning the content of the show is clean.
While the performers are male, they are so convincing in presenting themselves as females that I suspect most children or even adults would not know the difference unless they were told. If you are visiting eastern Thailand I would recommend that you see this show.
The Alcazar Cabaret Show is held within the Alcazar Theatre (see image above) which is located on 2nd Road, North Pattaya Naklua, Bangamung Chonburi Thailand 20150. The show opens daily from 6 PM and the cost is 600 Thai baht for foreigners. The best way to get there is by taxi
The best way to travel to Pattaya is by taking an air-conditioned bus from the Bangkok Ekkamai Bus Terminal (or Suvarnabhumi International Airport) as there is no airport located in Pattaya (the nearest is the U-Tapao International Airport which is located in the town of Sattahip which is 45 minutes away).
